Danse : Rae Bowhay

Rae Bowhay gives group classes, workshops and private lessons in flamenco, contemporary dance, percussion and improvisation. Drawing from her extensive training and performance background, Rae offers detailed methods to develop body awareness, range, precision and stamina. Tools for rhythmic comprehension include vocal and palmas (hand-clapping) exercises, notation and composition.

Her illustrative, hands on, approach encourages the student to work efficiently from the inside out, through the creative mind.

Guitar : Martin Trudel

Martin Trudel teaches contemporary and flamenco guitar, and has accompanied dance classes since 1998. His collaboration with dance allows for the development of imagination beyond the strictly musical aspects of technique, composition and improvisation. His method is based on the flamenco model, enriched with other traditions and styles like blues and contemporary music. Martin’s knowledge and creative ear are mood-enhancing accompaniments that underscore the learning experience.

School Workshops

SASASA Courses

In dance / music collaboration, the artist needs to hone his or her audio, visual and energetic listening skills.

SaSaSa’s workshops are unique. The focus is on interdisciplinary group collaboration. Dance, music and theatre students, professionals and aficionados alike, are invited to experience an approach based on the integration of diverse artistic disciplines to the flamenco model of structured improvisation.

With the aid of original exercises, the student discovers and develops a personal style, and is guided towards a freedom of artistic expression. This experience of heightened curiosity and possibility is structured into the context of a ‘tablao’ flamenco: a performance, or gathering, wherein each participant shares space and time, taking in turn the role of leader, mediator and follower.

The student develops a sense of listening, responsibility and collaboration, while appreciating the singularity of the medium and moment.
